Touching words from the mouth of babes. A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8 year-olds, “What does love mean?”The answers they got were broader and deeper than anyone could have imagined. See what you think:
1) “When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn’t bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That’s love.”
Rebecca- age 8
2) “When someone loves you, the way they say your name
is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth.”
Billy - age 4
3) “Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other.”
Karl - age 5
4) “Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs.
Chrissy - age 6
6) “Love is what makes you smile when you’re tired.”Terri - age 4
7) “Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK.”
Danny - age 7
“Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more. My Mommy and Daddy are like that. They look gross when they kiss”
Emily - age 8
9) “Love is what’s in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen.”
Bobby - age 7 (Wow!)
10) “If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate,”
Nikka - age 6
(we need a few million more Nikka’s on this planet)
11) “Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday.”
Noelle - age 7
12) “Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well.”
Tommy - age 6
13) “During my piano recital, I was on a stage and I was scared. I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling.
He was the only one doing that. I wasn’t scared anymore.”
Cindy - age 8
14) “My mommy loves me more than anybody.
You don’t see anyone else kissing me to sleep at night.”
Clare - age 6
15) “Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken.”
Elaine-age 5
16) “Love is when Mommy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Robert Redford.”
Chris - age 7
17) “Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day.”
Mary Ann - age 4
18) “I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones.”
Lauren - age 4
19) “When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you.” (what an image)
Karen - age 7
20) “Love is when Mommy sees Daddy on the toilet and she doesn’t think it’s gross..”
Mark - age 6
21) “You really shouldn’t say ‘I love you’ unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget.”
Jessica - age 8
22) And the final one — Author and lecturer Leo Buscaglia once talked about a contest he was asked to judge.
The purpose of the contest was to find the most caring child.
The winner was a four year old child whose next door neighbor was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife.
Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman’s yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there.
When his Mother asked what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said,
“Nothing, I just helped him cry”

23) At last but not the least, you must have known by now that this blog is all about optimism. I am very optimistic myself and I also want to spread the words or lesson of optimism all around the world. Above article is abstracted from the forwarded message, which was sent to me by one of my Friends. Instead of keeping this article to myself and forwarding it to some of my friends, i have posted it on my blog. And i was really thrilled and overwhelmed by the responses received by this article. So if you have any experience, story, incident then please send it to us and we will post it in our blog for free with your name attached to it. You can send the article to hugembrace@gmail.com . Don’t keep your inspiring stories with yourself only. Let’s inspire others and get inspired from others and spread the word of encouragement and inspiration. Even though we can’t donate any note, we can atleast donate some words of encouragement. So are you ready for it?

Nice ones! Children’s mind is not tainted by the jealousy, hatred and slefishness of the adult world. So they can see love such clearly.
thank you for posting this.
This is a wonderful, warm collection.
Thank you. You have no idea how much I needed these words of wisdom. I bet a lot of others will feel the same way. Sometimes you can affect another person’s entire day (week? year? life?) by compliling a list like this. Absolutely wonderful. Thank you again.
I really enjoyed reading what children think of love. The purest thing that brings them into this world is the one thing they can describe with most sincerity- it’s just amazing.
These are amazing! So sweet…
Love children and animals.Always!
As a practitioner of NLP I’m hyper aware of how our language affects our attitudes, and even our bodies. To have the this abstract concept made so clear and so real in new ways through the words of children totally made my day. My personal favorite was: “Love is what’s in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen.” I hope we can each hear love in our lives today!
I had an aquaintence tell me recently that I was the most negative person he knew. I “stumbled” on your website and it made me cry. I am trying to be more happy. These quotes are beautiful. Thank you so much.
Thank you! These are beautiful, innocent heartfelt expressions of how children see and experience love. They truly express the open-hearted state of a child’s mind and heart. No wonder a wonderful teacher and guide (and my savior) said, “unless you become like a child, you will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven.”
So young and naive. Love is just a chemical in your brain.
I think kids are just great. I teach Deaf and Hard of Hearing kids, and they are constantly saying the most adorable stuff. The best one I can think of that fits the website is about my very favorite student. He is 11, and one day, out of nowhere, he said, “I love you Mrs. P.” He is 11, and I am 27, so I was a little weirded out by it and didn’t know what to say. I said, “Well, like a sister, right?” And he immediately yelled, “No! I don’t love my sister!” I just found it funny because I also know his sister and they clearly love each other. He just does it without knowing that he does.
Wonderfull collection…Liked it..Especially No.7, 10 & 16….
Lovely post! I enjoyed it!
Love is found everywhere,it is important as air .water …It is the most beautiful thing in our word and the most effective medicine .
I’m not normally an optimistic person, on the contrary, im very pessimistic, but after reading these quotes, I didn’t feel so pessimistic toward the world.
Very nice
very nice….
As a guy its hard to admit this, but this was so sweet I cried.
After reading this i can say children r the best tutor
for the current society.
what we taught children if we follow that then the world will become a heaven.
