Movies are one of the main sources of entertainment these days. People watch movies to relax, have some good time with their family and friends and to learn something new. There are all kinds of movies based on comedy, science fictions, children story, family drama, romance, society, environment, wars, history, animals, etc. In my case, I always like to watch such movies which provide us with good knowledge and which assist to enhance our thinking horizon. And of course all the movies never lack the spices of entertainment.

Recently, my friend made me watch a movie “The Pursuit of Happyness” based on the true story of Christopher Paul Gardner, CEO of Gardner Rich & Co, worth $65 million USD (2006). The main leading role in the film is played Will Smith (actor best known for action movie) as Gardner and Smith’s real-life son Jaden Smith as Gardner’s son Christopher. The duo has done remarkable job in this film. After watching this film I have come to know what hard working indeed means and that success never comes in handy, one has to go through lots of hardships and tortures to achieve one’s dream. The title of the movie is derived from the words of Thomas Jefferson in the United States Declaration of Independence; the misspelling of “happiness” refers to a theme in the movie where Gardner is upset that a mural decorating his son’s daycare is incorrectly spelled.

In the film, Chris Gardner is a salesman of bone density scanners, with a wife( Linda) and a 5 year old kid Christopher. He has to sell two of the medical products to survive for a month. Fate has been such that he was not able to sell any of them for the last 3 months. But he is never disappointed and always optimistic. Being good with figures and with people, he decides to apply for the internship in a stock brokerage firm. Linda thinks he is just making some excuses and leaves him and Christopher to face the difficulties of life on their own. Their real hardships begin from here. They become homeless, penniless, even car less. All that left was his job as a salesman where he couldn’t sell a thing and the stock broker’s internship without any payment. Day by day his situation gets worse, in order to get one bed for a night in a shelter home, he stays in a long queue after his work. When he doesn’t get a room one night he takes his son to sleep in the restroom of a subway. Each and every sequences are very heart touching and sympathetic. Especially this part will surely make your eyes flow. But keeping all these sorrows on the bay, Chris studies day and night to get the job at the firm through the internship. Chris has been portrayed as a very understanding and loving father where as Christopher is very calm, considerate, supportive, optimistic as his father and loyal to his father. No matter whatever be the situations Christopher always stayed beside his father.

Some of the most influencing sayings on the films are:

• If i don’t know the answer, i am gonna say i dont know it, but i know how to get the answers and i will get the answers. (Chris during his internship interview)

• “Maybe happiness is something that we can only pursue. And maybe we can actually never have it no matter what.”

• If you got a dream, you gotta protect it. People can’t do something themselves, they wanna tell you that you can’t do it. You want something? Go get it.

• Don’t move the mountain God, give us courage to climb it. (The song in the church during his hard days)

The movie is worth watching. And I am sure that it will help to uplift your spirits confidence even for an inch. Actually everyone should watch such movies to give them enough strength every morning to fight for the day.

Lastly, I want to thank my friend for providing me with the movie which is different to usual films and would help to make one a better father or son, hard working, considerate and confident.
